Duties of a Council Member

The duties of members of Council outlined in Bylaw 10 include the following:

Participate in CBA-SK Activities

  • Attend Council meetings, CBA-SK Annual Meeting, and CBA Annual Meeting.
  • Participate as much as possible in the Law Student Welcome Reception, Mentorship Program, annual Mid-Winter Meeting, and any other Branch programs.
  • (You will be notified of upcoming events with details for registration either directly in your role as a Council member or through our e-newsletter SaskWatch.)

Learn about the CBA and CBA-SK

  • Be familiar with the Bylaws, this Policy Manual, and the organizational structure of CBA-SK and the CBA. Visit our website https://www.cbasask.org/about-us.
  • Review the CBA-SK monthly e-newsletter SaskWatch (if you do not receive SaskWatch, please check the settings on your membership profile to ensure you have provided permission for emails).
  • Read BarNotes, our online CBA-SK magazine.

Inform your colleagues on what the CBA and CBA-SK are doing

  • Actively promote the activities and profile of CBA-SK within the Saskatchewan Bar, for example reporting back to your local Bar or Section (if applicable).
  • Ensure that the interests of individual constituencies, such as local Bar associations, are put before Council or Board of Directors.
  • Support Branch and national Sections and promote to CBA-SK members.

Represent CBA-SK

  • Respond to email requests in a timely manner.
  • Promote CBA membership.
  • Support the activities of CBA-SK through attendance at events.
