Territorial Land Acknowledgment Policy

CBA-SK is committed to responding to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s 94 Calls to Action. Our work in understanding and acknowledging the Truth and engaging in Reconciliation is an ongoing process. One of the many initiatives that CBA-SK has undertaken is to have territorial land acknowledgments at its meetings.  Acknowledging territory shows recognition of and respect for Indigenous Peoples who were caretakers of this land long before colonial arrival. It involves thinking about what happened in the past and what changes can be made going forward to further the reconciliation process.

We recognize and support that territorial land acknowledgments reflect the experience of the speaker and we encourage you to develop your own territorial land acknowledgment. However, we provide the following as guidance:

  1. For those meetings where the host/moderator is in Saskatoon, we offer the following territorial acknowledgment:
Thank you for joining us today. While we may be physically dispersed, I would like to honour and acknowledge that I am hosting this meeting from Treaty 6 territory and the homeland of the Métis, and I pay my respects to the First Nations and Métis of this place and reaffirm our relationship with one another.  I invite attendees to take a moment to reflect on the meaning of place and recognize the traditional lands on which you stand today.
  2. For those meetings where the host/moderator is in Regina, we offer the following territorial acknowledgment:
Thank you for joining us today. While we may be physically dispersed, I would like to honour and acknowledge that I am hosting this meeting from Treaty 4 territory, and I pay my respects to the First Nations and Métis of this place and reaffirm our relationship with one another. I invite attendees to take a moment to reflect on the meaning of place and recognize the traditional lands on which you stand today.
