Affinity is looking for a senior governance leader to provide governance expertise across the organization. Reporting directly to the Chief Risk Officer and Corporate Secretary, this role works closely with executive leadership and the Board of Directors to lead the day‑to‑day operations of the Governance division. The role oversees a team of professionals responsible for the corporate governance function and the Member Council framework, ensuring Affinity demonstrates effective, compliant, and values‑based governance.
What you’ll do:
- Provide governance leadership and expertise; work with the Corporate Secretary to develop and implement governance frameworks, policy frameworks and processes to ensure effective operation of Board and Committees.
- Act as a primary governance advisor and operational lead supporting the Board of Directors and Committees, ensuring materials, decisions, and processes meet legal, regulatory, and leading practice standards.
- Understand and draft complex governance documents in support of Board and Committee mandates, legal and regulatory requirements, and good corporate governance practices for a financial institution.
- Oversee annual cycle and processes to support complex governance decisions. Providing oversight of Affinity’s policy framework, including leadership of the Policy function to ensure policies are current, coherent, and aligned with governance, regulatory, and strategic expectations.
- Lead and oversee the Member Council framework, including appointments, onboarding, ongoing support, and governance, ensuring alignment with Board policy, and Affinity’s community‑based values.
- Lead and develop a team of governance professionals, ensuring strong governance practices, high‑quality Board and Committee support, and consistent delivery of governance services across the organization.
- Work with peers across divisions to drive collaboration and effective communication.

What you’ve got:
- Post-secondary diploma or degree in a related field, plus 10 years of related experience in governance, legal, corporate affairs, or a regulated environment (financial services preferred) or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A legal background is an asset.
- Advanced expertise in corporate governance, including advising Boards and Committees, working within legal and regulatory frameworks and applying leading governance practices in a regulated organization.
- Advanced knowledge in the development, implementation, and execution of divisional strategies which incorporate leading practices and innovative developments.
- Ability to lead, engage, and coach employees, set clear expectations, review progress, provide feedback and guidance, and hold people accountable.
- Experience overseeing leading practice research and collaborative working relationships to create, implement, and revise innovative processes.
